Recreational anglers pushed the Trump administration to intervene after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration set the shortest recreational snapper season on record – just three days in June. The result was a deal between the Commerce Department and Gulf states to extend the season.
Why did they have to do this? Because private anglers & even the fishing-for-hire sectors were getting the short end of the stick vs Commercial Fishing. Can you imagine if we had a less friendly group running Washington? Of course you can. It’s all politics. Even NPR agrees:
“We want a fair shake,” says Blakeley Ellis, executive director of the Coastal Conservation Association of Alabama, a group representing private anglers.
“If we can’t go, I don’t think it’s fair that I’ve got to sit on the dock and somebody can write a check and get to do the same thing,” he says.
SRO will be the go-to organization for the individual & small outdoor business.
