THE POWER OF THE SPRINGFIELD XD-E .45 ACP AND 9MM LUGER

by: Tony Furr – THE POWER OF THE SPRINGFIELD XD-E .45 ACP AND 9MM LUGER

If you are in the market for a self-loading, quality, personal-defense handgun you know that there are a plethora of choices currently on the market. And if you are browsing for a 9mm or a .45, you have dozens and dozens of brands to sift through and just as many different styles to choose from. One line of guns that has proven itself over the last year – and offers some noticeably different operating functionality is the Springfield XD-E Line. The XD-E line fires by way of an exposed hammer and features a manual safety that also serves as a decocker. The XD-E can be carried cocked and locked. While the safety is also a decocker, the decocker is small enough that you’re not likely to accidentally decock the pistol when disengaging the safety. The XD-E features a 3.3-inch hammer-forged barrel with a corrosion-resistant Melonite finish. The XD-E’s slide design also requires less force to move than traditional handguns – an estimated difference of 30 percent. The Springfield’s original XD pistol debuted over 15 years ago… and has seen many different editions over the years, buy none of the previous XD family members share the new model’s hammer-fire method of cartridge ignition. The XD-E further stands apart from other XD pistols in that it does not possess passive safeties in either its grip or trigger. The XD-E .45 holds seven-plus-one rounds and the 9mm Luger holds nine-plus-one rounds. Taking a closer look at the XD-E 9mm Luger: Even though, Springfield Armory considers the XD-E a compact pistol, the XD-E 9mm is not a small gun. It measures 6.75 inches long with the hammer down and five inches tall with the short magazine. The pistol however is thin. Much of it, including the grip, is an inch thick or less. The widest part of the 9mm is the bilateral decocker/safety. It measures just 1.2 inches wide so it does have a slim feel in the hand. Taking a look now at the XD-E .45 ACP model: It also sports a one-inch-wide polymer frame. The external hammer allows you to “see and feel gun mode,” Springfield says. The .45’s double action trigger sports a trigger pull that is smooth yet long and deliberate. Meanwhile, the anti-slip texturing on the grip surface provides comfort and control. The XD-E .45 package includes a fiber optic front sight and white-dot rear sight.

  1. The slide On the Springfield 45acp and 9mm is so incredible to rack back it is awsome. The Springfield XDE also is sorta like the 1911 with the cock lock featured but very compact. Springfield did great job with this gun.
